Volunteer
Stokes Nature Center relies on volunteers to help us carry out our mission to provide nature education opportunities to people of all ages. SNC's volunteer program offers an opportunity for meaningful community service. There are many benefits to volunteering with SNC. As a volunteer, you can learn from experienced naturalists, develop new skills and gain new experiences, add to your resume and list of references for future employment, and best of all, have fun and help make a difference in your community.
Check out our current volunteer opportunities, listed below. Our volunteer application and volunteer manual are also linked below. If you are interested in volunteering, please print and fill out an application and return it to the volunteer coordinator. Basic Volunteer Opportunities
Professional Volunteer Opportunities
Help Build a Native Plant Garden
Stokes Nature Center is looking for some volunteers to help with our native plant garden. Projects will begin in Spring 2011.
Marketing Volunteer Opportunities
Stokes Nature Center is looking for help with several different marketing projects. If you are interested in marketing, want to get some experience, or just want to help SNC spread nature education throughout the community, we have a project for you. No experience is necessary. Some example projects are listed below. We welcome your project ideas as well.
a) Help in determining where we can expand our marketing. We would like to create pages for more online communities, such as Myspace. Also, we are interested in creating a blog for our website where we can discuss different nature topics.
b) Program Marketing. Take on a specific program and determine the best way to reach our target audience. For example, Parent Tot Nature Hour is one of our regular programs for ages 2-3. Find the best ways to let parents with toddlers know about this excellent program and when it’s happening.
c) Newsletters. Help make our bi-weekly e-newsletter more eye-catching and appealing. Or assist with our quarterly printed newsletter anywhere from article writing to editing to mailing.
Event Planning
Stokes Nature Cener puts on a variety of special events. The largest of these is our annual fundraiser, which is put on every fall and takes many months of planning and coordination. We are always happy to have as much help as we can get for these events. Possible projects include decorations, donations, marketing, creating invitations, flyers, signs, printing, setup, and helping out the day of the event.
Community Programs Volunteer
SNC is always looking for help at our community programs. Help out at a snowshoeing adventure, a children's nature exploration program, a summer camp or another one of our fun nature programs. Check out our current list of community programs by clicking here.
