Stokes Nature Center School Programs are hands on, science-based and correlate to the Utah State Core Curriculum for students in pre-school through 5th grade. We also have field-based science programs for students from pre-school – 12th grade. School Programs are also available during summer and afterschool hours.

Wee Hike
1.5 hours at SNC, Offered Mar. - Nov., $2.75/student

Take an adventure along the River Trail using your senses to discover the sights and sounds of nature. Go on a scavenger hunt, reach into touch boxes, and even meet a snake!

Kindergartentop

Nature Explorers
1.5 hours at SNC, Offered Sept. - mid Nov. and mid Apr. - May, $2.75/student

Explore the natural world using all your senses, and investigate how weather affects the world outside.
Science Standard 1 - Students will make observations using the five senses.
Science Standard 3 -Students will observe weather and describe how seasonal changes affect living creatures.

All About Plants
1.5 hours at SNC, Offered Sept. - May, $2.75/student

What does a plant need to grow? What makes a plant a plant? How do people use plants? Investigate these questions in and out of the classroom!
Science Standard 4, Objective 2 - Living things change and depend upon their environment to satisfy basic needs.
Science Standard 4, Objective 1.2 - Analyze the individual similarities and differences within and across larger groups.
Science Standard 3, Objective 2.1 - Sort, classify, and chart objects by observable properties, e.g., size, shape, color, and texture.

Rockin’ with Rocks
2 hours at SNC, Offered Sept. - May, $2.75/student

Can rocks float, fizz, or cut glass? Examine rock characteristics, explore the rock cycle and some amazing uses of rocks.
Science Standard 2, Objective 1 - Describe the characteristics of different rocks.

River of Life
2 hours at SNC, Offered Sept. - mid Nov. and mid Apr. - May, $2.75/student

Come explore the sights and sounds of the Logan River and discover who lives in this riparian habitat. We'll consider how the river has changed over time and how it affects our community.
Science Standard 2 - Students will understand that organisms depend on living and nonliving things within their environment.
Math Standard 5 - Students will collect and organize data to make predictions and identify concepts of probability.
Social Studies Standard 1 - Students show how environments and communities change over time through influence of people.

Weather
2 hours at SNC, Offered Sept. - Nov. and Mar. - May, $2.75/student

Predict the weather using special instruments such as an ancient weather glass, a Galileo thermometer, and our high-tech weather station.
Science Standard 2 - Students will understand that the elements of weather can be observed, measured, and recorded to make predictions and determine simple weather patterns.

2 hours at SNC, Offered Sept. - Nov. and Mar. - May, $2.75/student

Explore the inherited traits and learned behaviors that help animals and plants share resources and survive in different environments.
Science Standard 5 - Students will understand that traits are passed from the parent organisms to their offspring, and that sometimes the offspring may possess variations of these traits that may help or hinder survival in a given environment.

Multi-age Programstop

River Monitoring (4th -12th grade)
1-2 hours at SNC, Offered year-round, $2.50/student

Test water quality, sample aquatic insects, and survey the stream channel of the Logan River. Help us as we monitor this stretch of the Logan River.

SNC Field Exploration Programstop

Winter Naturalist Snowshoeing Adventure (Kindergarten - 8th grade)
2.5 hours at Denzil Stewart Nature Park, Green Canyon, Guinavah-Malibu Campground or your schoolyard – snow permitting, Offered Dec. – Feb., $4.50/student, plus $35 travel fee for offsite programs

Strap on snowshoes and explore our winter world! Identify animal tracks in the snow, study snow science, investigate winter adaptations of wildlife and more. Program fee includes the use of snowshoes for each student, and warm clothing and boots if needed.
Physical Education Standard 1 - Students will value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
