Native Neighbors Series – Winter Bird Hike

Saturday, February 23, 1 to 3:00 p.m.

$6 ($3 SNC members), $10 group of 4, All Ages

 

Trek through the mountains with a SNC naturalist and uncover a plethora of feathered friends. Snowshoes will be available snow permitting. Space is limited, pre-registration is required.

 

Saturday Activity - The Stars Above

$2 per craft, All ages

 

Bring the family and learn about our most popular constellations, and maybe some you’ve never heard of. Then create your own constellation lanterns to hang at home! SNC is open from 10 – 4 p.m. No registration is required.

 

Introduction to Composting

Saturday, March 22, 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.

$4 ($3 for SNC members), 12 yrs and up

 

Join SNC and a Logan City expert for some excellent composting tips. Find out how to start and maintain a successful heap of garden-boosting goodness! Whether you prefer a yard bin or a box of worms, you’ll be putting all those kitchen scraps and lawn clippings to good use  

 

WMI’s Wilderness First Aid Course

Saturday & Sunday, April 5-6, All-day

$180 for 2-day course

 

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn life-saving skills or update your WFR.  This is a fast paced and hands-on, this two- day course covering a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel in the outdoors. This course is ideal for trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals in remote locations. WMI's course is sponsored by the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS and Stokes Nature Center. Space is limited, pre-registration is required.

 

Summer Kick-Off

Bring the family to our annual Open House for a visit and lots of fun nature activities and crafts. Check out our summer line-up, enjoy a few refreshments, and even lend a hand as a river clean-up volunteer!

 Logan River Clean Up Saturday, April 12, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This event will take place along the River Trail. The clean up will start and finish at Stokes Nature Center. For more information, contact Lauren Brown, Community Projects Coordinator, Utah Rivers Council:  801-486-4776, email: lauren@utahrivers.org.   After the Clean Up, stop inside the Nature Center as we will be having our annual Open House.  See above.

Fly Fishing Fun

Learn the art of fly fishing and spend a morning getting to know the rush of the river! Join Stokes Nature Center and Andy Rasmussen for an introductory session on Friday evening, followed by a chance to practice your new skills on Saturday morning. Space is limited, pre-registration is required.

Native Plant Investigation Day

Meet SNC and local native plants expert, Kayo Robertson for a hike of discovery! We will find and discuss several native plants and how they were used by pre-historic people. After the hike, participants will receive a ticket for free admission to the USU Anthropology Museum, where we will learn about other pre-history foods. Drawing with Nature's Tools

Free, Adult Program               

Local artist, writer and teacher Margaret Pettis will lead us in a morning of experimental drawing with ink wash and brush as well as natural tools. The Logan River will inspire our creations as we investigate composition anddepth, variety of line and gradated wash. Margaret will provide the supplies. Space is limited, pre-registration is required.
