winter is a wonderful time to see the signs of wildlife and understand their daily survival in the cold. Led by Utah Master Naturalist

taste some of the finest sustainably farmed coffees from around the world, with expert insights into their origins and the evaluation techniques used
by industry pros to select the best grounds around. This event will highlight the sustainable coffee industry with insights on the distinction of Smithsonian
Certified Bird-Friendly coffee from Caffe Ibis founders and owners Randy Wirth and Sally Sears. So grab a friend, and come explore the best gourmet coffee
while supporting green business and your local nature center!

Photographing a winter landscape presents some unique challenges. Photographer Jim Parrish will instruct participants in the appropriate
camera settings to keep snow looking white, techniques for shooting in bright snowy conditions, and a few tips and tricks for special snow effects.
This two-part course will also include a photo critique session on Saturday morning. Participants will be asked to take photographs before the
Saturday session for critique. Film and digital photographers welcome.

Help SNC support local nonprofit Nordic United as they host the Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival. Films highlight the fun
and magic of winter recreation through compelling and entertaining stories of backcountry, non-motorized recreation and environmental preservation.
Festivities include silent & live auctions. SNC (also part of the Winter Wildlands Alliance) will be promoting snowshoe & SnowSchool events.

Join Stokes Nature Center at Sunrise Cyclery as we explore innovations in upcycling. Sunrise owner Jeff Keller will lead participants
in creating unique "blip pot" planters from repurposed bike tires. Jeff's blip pots are environmentally friendly, portable, durable, and
highly effective. Learn how you can make the most of compost, yard scraps, and small spaces to grow flowers, vegetables and fruits. Jeff's
collection behind the Sunrise Cyclery shop produce delicious heirloom tomatoes. What will you grow?!

For ages 15+
Cost: $10 suggested donation
Local astronomer Jim Akers will lead this truly unique adventure - a nighttime ski & snowshoe expedition! Trek with your eyes on the heavens,
with stops along the way to examine the moon, stars, and possibly even another galaxy. We'll provide star charts, cocoa and snacks. You need to
bring skis/snowshoes, warm clothes (multiple layers - do not skimp!), a flashlight (headlamp preferred), and your enthusiasm. Snowshoes available upon request.

This outing is designed to teach individuals basic survival skills related to the winter season. Participants will learn to build snow shelters,
multiple methods of starting (and keeping) a fire, and ways to obtain food and water. This is a great opportunity to learn hands-on, basic survival
